[The mall is crowed, flooded by shoppers hunting for gifts while time is still on their side. It makes maneuvering around hard, and being on the look out for someone even harder. But Izuku and his chore partner had agreed on the giant Christmas tree standing in the center of the mall as their meeting spot. It's hard to get past without noticing, after all.

He stands next to the tree, his stillness making him stand out, as he's one of the few people in the mall not scurrying about from store to store. Discreetly he checks the time on his phone before looking up to scan the crowd again. Maybe he shouldn't have come quite so early.]

[ Kotone's running a little late for the meeting, but she's not too worried about it. Nobody's ever on time to these sorts of things, right? So it's perfectly okay to be a little late.

Thankfully for everyone else involved, her lateness is more on the order of minutes rather than hours, and once she sees Izuku standing next to the tree with phone in hand, she'll make a bee-line over to him. They said to meet by the tree, so it's probably the right person... ]

Hey! Are you here for the charity thing, too?

[Izuku glances over when he hears a voice nearby, and offers her a relieved smile. If she's here for the charity event then she has to be his partner. Now he just hopes they can make it over to the toy store a few shops down before all the good toys are taken.]

Yeah. I'm Izuku. [He offers his hand.]

I guess it's good we decided to start early. Judging by this crowd nothing good will be left by Christmas.

[ She'll shake his hand, before letting go and looking around. Who knew the mall would be so packed in early December? ]

You're not kidding! I didn't even know people started shopping this early, but the whole town's here...

I think a lot of people get started right after Thanksgiving. That's when all the big sales start.

[He glances nervously at the hoard of people moving by them and gulps. He's seen how competitive people can be when trying to get the perfect gift, and he's really hoping they'll be able to get inside the store, grab a good toy and two, and leave.]

Shall we? There's a good toy store a little ways down on the left side of the hall.

[ She's cutting straight to the chase with that one. ]

[ The answer is 'yes', but Kotone's not sure she wants to share that information just yet. For all she knows, it's in her best interests to lie and avoid whatever terrible thing her sister has in mind. ]

[ time to go hit up the mailbox!! coincidentally enough, naegi just got a ticket in the morning saying that he had to pick something up so this is nice. he can accompany kotone while also getting his own item so he waits for her by recolle high’s school gates. his winter clothes are a number of years old now so they’re not as warm as they originally are so he’s just huddled up against the wall, blowing into his hands. ]

[ Kotone's probably a few minutes late (she's not the most punctual teenager...), but she does show up not too long afterward, waving to him cheerfully. ]

Hey! Hope you weren't waiting too long...

[optimistical]

No, not that long.

[ naegi's patient so waiting a few minutes isn't that bad. at least she didn't make him wait like an hour or something so they can start walking to the mailbox! ]

How were your holidays, by the way?

Pretty good! Any excuse to get a few weeks off of school is fine by me.

[ Well, that and hanging out with family, relaxing, all the other benefits... but that's a pretty big one in her book. ]

[ naegi makes a mental note to ask kotone later about school... he’s still her mentor so he should make sure that she’s doing well and if she still hasn’t figured out what she wants to do after high school ]

It’s been okay. I’ve honestly been working most of the time.

[ him and his three jobs... no wonder naegi looks like crap most of the time ]

You know, actually, I got a ticket in the mail yesterday after we finished talking. Looks like Retrospec has something for me as well.
