CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Mion Sonozaki
Canon: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
Reference: here's a wiki page
Appearance: here's a picture

Character Info: Mion was originally born as Shion Sonozaki, the younger of the identical Sonozaki twins. Due to prior family conflicts, the oldest twin was placed as the heir to the family, next in line once Oryou Sonozaki, the current head, passed away. As the younger twin, and thusly the unimportant one, she was excluded from family events while her older sister (who was at that time known as Mion) was always invited. This lead the twins to develop a more fair system, in which they would swap places at times so that both Shion and Mion could feel included.

However, one of these switches occurred on the day on which the eldest twin was supposed to receive the "mark of the heir" - a tattoo of a demon on her back. This mistake forced the two twins to permanently switch positions, and that was when Mion got her current name.

The twin-swap didn't just result in a name and position change, however; it had a lasting effect on both twins' personality. Mion wound up adapting her new position by affecting a tomboyish personality, choosing to suppress her naturally-girly side in favor of appearing as a capable heir to the powerful Sonozaki name. She refers to herself as "Uncle Mion," acts like a perverted old man at times, and pretends that she doesn't like things like dolls, which later leads to trouble when she wants her friend Keiichi to see her as a girl. Even when he manages to see past her front, she's so used to acting like one of the boys that her pride won't allow her to accept it.

That doesn't mean she doesn't still care about people; it just means that she has a much harder time expressing it, especially when it comes to romantic feelings. She and her twin sister express their love for each other by teasing and embarrassing each other. She and her friends also are famous for playing "punishment games" together, where the winners get to torment the losers with whatever horrible punishment (wearing maid outfits, doing chores) they wish. Her way of expressing affection, more often than not, is to play around and tease people instead of being direct about it - because she feels that that sort of feeling isn't appropriate for her persona.

Of course, she does care about her friends - more than anything. She's a pretty moral individual, being against killing despite being a yakuza heiress, but she's willing to move bodies and cover up murders if that's what it takes to keep her friends safe. She's notable for being the one major character who never snaps and succumbs to the paranoia-inducing Hinamizawa Syndrome, because of the fact that she has so much trust in her friends that the suspicion never takes hold. Mion is even willing to offer up her life if that's what it takes to keep her friends safe, in one arc, because they are that important to her.

Last but not least, she's notable for having leadership and tactical capabilities that are quite remarkable. Not only does she lead her club through their day-to-day activities, in one arc she manages to successfully lead their club to victory when fighting against a counterintelligence military unit. She's not necessarily the brightest when it comes to book smarts, but she's able to reason out the tactics and rationale used by their enemies even with little knowledge about them. Even with their limited training and resources, she maximizes the advantages the kids have in order to assure their victory and keep Hinamizawa safe.

Memory Loss Considerations: Without memories, Mion would have no reason to put up the tomboy, "fitting heir" persona that she uses throughout canon. Instead, she'd be a lot more like her true personality - girlier in that she's actually willing to refer to herself as a girl, as opposed to calling herself Uncle Mion, and likely much less tsundere about her feelings for people. While by canon she's become so used to her affected personality that she doesn't know how to let it go, in a situation like this she'd be free to start again, since she wouldn't know about it.

Of course, old memories could alter this one of two ways: she could either shift to her tomboy persona and continue to use that once she sees it in memories, or she could eventually learn to find a balance between the two. It would depend a lot on what kind of person she feels like her team needs as well as what memories she gets back, but either way it would give her another chance to evaluate how she wants to present herself.

Skills: All of Mion's skills are within the capabilities of a human being, and so would not be susceptible to the powercap. Her skills include expertise in akido, military-grade firearms training, and strategic genius.

Team Considerations: Mion is the kind of teammate who would really grow to care about her team and would put the team bond first - much as she does with her club in canon. She's willing to go so far as cover up murders to help her friends, and she'd have that same sort of mentality with teammates.

She doesn't believe that they should have to air out all their dirty laundry to each other or have to prove themselves, she just thinks that a team should be a group of people who use their individual strengths to their combined advantage, and more importantly a group as close as family.
